Track and Field news
The 2023 track and field trophies for best performances have been awarded as follows:
The Presidents Trophy for best track performance last year was won outright by Martin Smith. His Vets League performances in the summer included 4 PBs (100m, 400m, 1500m & 3000m), and his 3000m notably reset the club record for M60, and impressively took the time under the 14minute barrier, finishing in 13min55sec.
Kathryn Leech retained The Field Trophy, setting a PB in the Javelin (14.88m) at the Vets League (Tilsley Park) in the summer. Despite being hampered by an ongoing shoulder impairment she also competed in the Masters Throws Pentathalon at Horspath in August, and then moved to the Tri-Light category (Shot, Discus and Javelin) at Swindon Winter Invitational Throws in November and December (where she got an impressive SB in the Shot Put of 6.68m, just 5cm short of her PB which she set in 2019!).
We’re getting the trophies engraved and will present them at a convenient social club event. Congratulations both!
DIARY DATE: The first Vets League (over 35s) meeting for the new season will be on Monday 29th April, 6.30pm, at Horspath in Oxford.
