Welcome to White Horse Harriers

White Horse Half Marathon

2021 White Horse Half Marathon.

The 2021 White Horse Half Marathon had a provisional date of Sunday 11 April.  Sadly, we will not be able to run the race on that date.  We are currently in Covid-19 lockdown conditions and we don’t know when and how the restrictions will be lifted. This presents too many uncertainties to proceed with the provisional date. We hope to run the 2021 White Horse Half Marathon later in the year but cannot say at present whether that will be practical or what alternative date might be chosen. We will provide another update in due course.

To maximise our donation and reduce unnecessary waste, we are keeping the 2020 Half Marathon trophies and mugs for use in the 2021 event. As such, they will form part of the costing of the 2021 event.  We recognise that they will have 2020 markings on them but we are sure that the 2021 race entrants will understand the very unusual circumstances. We intend to run an early booking window for 2020 entrants. As per the previous paragraph – we do not yet know when we will next be able to hold the White Horse Half Marathon.

Owing to the Coronavirus Outbreak the 2020 race was cancelled. Race entrants were contacted and offered either a full refund or to donate their entry fee to reimburse unrecoverable losses made by White Horse Harriers AC in preparing the race with any surplus being donated to the local Coronavirus Support Group.
There was a very generous response from race entrants: We have both covered our losses and donated £4,683 to the Wantage and Surrounding Area Coronavirus Support Group on your behalf. White Horse Harriers Athletics Club wishes to thank you all and we also pass on thanks from Ray Collins on behalf of the Coronavirus Support Group.
We also wish to thank all those who had offered to help at the 2020 event – marshalling, car parking duties, drinks stations etc. along with the sponsors who had come forward. Thank you.

The 2020 race was due to be  both an Oxfordshire County Championship and is part of the Oxfordshire Grand Prix series. The Race Licence number was: 2020-39438.

The race is run on a level and attractive rural course through the country villages of the Vale of the White Horse. Starting from Grove the course follows quiet country lanes through the villages of Denchworth, Lyford and Charney Bassett. The race is chip timed and starts at 09:30. The format and course of the race remains unchanged from recent years. The White Horse Half Marathon has been voted one of the top 10 races for PB potential on the Runners World website.

All enquiries should be made via email to: whitehorsehalfmarathon@gmail.com

We Acknowledge Support for this Race from

Revolution Sports Injuries Clinic

Local Specialists in Sports Therapy and Physiotherapy

Local Shop for all things sporting (including running).

We also wish to thank Standbrook Guides for permission to make use of their maps.

In the recent past we have donated a share of the profits from this race to local charities.  We are now working with a local school on plans to install and upgrade athletics facilities which our athletes will be able to make use of. We have made a conscious decision not to nominate a local charity this year but to put funds raised by the 2020 race towards these facilities (as was also done for the 2019 race).
