Simon pictured in 1500m during Vets League 29.4.24

Our congratulations go to Simon Leech for his outstanding 1500m PB which he set during the Oxfordshire County Championships at Horspath at the weekend. He took the gold in his age category and his time of 5″07′.71 improves on his previous M55 club record for 1500m by an impressive 3 seconds.

The next local Open meeting (juniors, seniors & vets) will also be at Horspath on the evening of Wednesday 22nd May. All 2024 Open meeting results from WHH athletes will be included in the trophy decision making process, so there’s lots to play for!

The next VETS League (over 35s) fixture is Wednesday 29th May 18:30-21:30 at Tilsley Park in Abingdon. The club has paid the fees, so anyone wishing to enter should let me know and I’ll add you to the team-sheet. Events will be: TRACK – 2000m Walk (M & W); 200m (M & W); 800m (M & W); 5000m (W); 4 x 400m (M & W). FIELD – Discus (M & W); Shot (W); Javelin (M); Triple Jump (M & W), Pole Vault (M & W). Simon’s been organising track sessions at Radley, so there’s still time for a practice before you commit. Team-sheets usually need to be declared 3 or 4 days in advance, so don’t leave it too late to make your mind up.

Advance diary dates: The Cheltenham Midsummer Open series takes place annually on four Wednesdays in July. Dates this year are: 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th July. No details of schedules or booking yet, but I’ll let you know as soon as I have information to share.
