Vets League – match 4

The final match of the season was hosted by Swindon Harriers at Swindon Foundation Park on Friday 22nd July. A balmy evening, with a couple of light showers, and a new venue for some of our competitors. Unfortunately early evening traffic caused a few late arrivals, but we still put up a good show. A few PBs and SBs again, and both men’s and ladies teams hung on to the final events, the 4 x 200m Relay. Well done to all who took part and many thanks for the birthday cake!

I’ve done a bit of mathematics! Our final standings after all matches show our Men in 6th position overall, and our Ladies in 5th position overall. This is a very pleasing result for our return after the pandemic, and something we can build on next year! I hope you all enjoyed it, and I look forward to encouraging those who’ve not tried track and field to give it a go. Who knows, you might find a new event which you really like.

My thanks throughout the season to our support crew! Richard Jegou (photos), Alan Davies, Dawn Ealey, Gareth Smith and Bruce Charles. We’re always looking for helpers and officials – if you’re not a competitor, but think you’d be interested in this aspect of the Track and Field season we’d be very happy to hear from you. Why not ask about training to become an official? Or, if the timetable allows, you can compete and officiate on the same night! Speak to me, Nick White or any committee member to find out more.
