Return of the VETs League

Bank Holiday Monday saw the welcome return of the Vets League, with Match 1 held at Horspath Athletics Track in Oxford.

Vets League is a fantastic athletics team event involving 8 local clubs. Events are scored on places, so first place takes 8 points, second place takes 7 points and so on. Therefore the more people you have in your team on the night, the better the chances of the club scoring well.

If no-one does the high jump, we score nothing. If someone does the high jump, but comes eighth, we score 1 point. However, if there are only 3 people in your age category doing the event, then ‘last/third’ will actually score 6 points. So when it comes to Vets League, the taking part counts as much (if not more) than your actual performance.

On the night we had an even turnout of 7 men and 7 ladies, with some members taking part in their first Vets League, having achieved the ripe old age of 35!

On the Track our runners took part in the 100m, 400m, 1500m, 4 x 100m relay, and a rescheduled 3000m flat (the steeplechase waterjump taking longer to fill than anticipated!).

On the Field we had a couple of entrants in the Long Jump, and Shot Put, and a single entrant in the Hammer and Javelin.

We’d love you to join us for the next Match: remember, ‘the more the merrier!’ – Tuesday 31st May, 6.30pm, at Tilsley Park in Abingdon.
