Update on Club Activities

The Club continues to monitor and follow requirements and guidance regarding Coronavirus from Government and England Athletics as both continue to evolve. To support the club’s compliance, Nick White has kindly taken on the role of Covid Coordinator. A Risk Assessment has been prepared indicating the relevant controls that will ensure that our club activities are carried out safely. This includes keeping a log and contact details of each member who attends each session. We are looking at a couple of Apps/web-services for booking/logging session attendance and will let members know when we have concluded. We are looking at a couple of Apps/web-services for booking/logging session attendance and will let members know when we have concluded.

For Juniors:

Training sessions for younger juniors (aged 8 to low teens) are currently for up to 15 athletes per week (three groups of five plus a coach) and to accommodate our numbers athletes can only attend on alternate weeks. For the older ones there are two sessions per week – one for distance runners and the other for sprinters – again with limited numbers of up to 5 athletes in each session.

For Seniors:

The 7pm Tuesday evening Zoom sessions continue and we are offering a social run on Tuesdays as well – this may become regular if there is enough interest and run leaders are available. Thursday evening training sessions have now restarted – again 7pm, currently at Wantage Park. Furthermore Sunday Social runs have restarted – usual time/place – Court Hill 8.30am (usually with optional extra 5k run from Wantage). For all the ‘physical’ training sessions pre-booking is essential – check the WHH Facebook page.

Our Road Running Championship for 2020 continues. So far there have been 11 events – a mix of three real from before lockdown and eight virtual events with over 50 Harriers taking part. Again details are on the club Facebook page.
