Route 31 – Longworth – Shifford Lock (8km, 55m)

This mixed-terrain route also starts outside the village hall in Longworth. It first heads west on a tarmac road doing dog-legs around the church and manor house, onto a lane that takes you to the outskirts of Hinton Waldrist. It then turns right onto a permissive farm track (broken surface) which kinks left and right, mostly northwards to the river Thames at Shifford Lock. You then follow the Thames Path downstream to a footpath junction which heads south over Harrowdown Hill, onto a road through Longworth, and back to the start.

After prolonged rain the Thames can flood and leave lots of mud and standing water on the banks and meadows, which are best avoided.
