JogWantage is a ‘Couch to 5k’ for beginners, aged 16 and over, who would like to start jogging to get fit, or just need a boost in confidence to return after a long absence.
The 2020 course will take place in Wantage on Wednesday evenings from 6.30pm – 7.30pm starting on Wednesday 29th April and run for ten weeks. There will be a charge of £30 for the course.
It has been run by volunteers from White Horse Harriers each spring since 2009 as part of RUN ENGLAND (now called “RunTogether“). The leaders are qualified Leaders in Running Fitness who are aided by sympathetic helpers, some of whom started running with Jog Wantage themselves, and who understand how daunting it can be to take those first steps. At the end of the course you have the chance to jog 5km at the Abingdon Parkrun.
There will be a welcome session on Wednesday 1st April 2020 from 18:30 to 19:30 in The Beacon, Wantage where there will be some short presentations giving some guidance as well as a chance to sign up. Here is a link to the Get Ready to Run Handout which may be useful. The 1st April date is the main welcome evening – but for anyone who cannot make that we will also run a drop-in session on Wednesday 22nd April, also in The Beacon 18:30-19:30. You do not need to attend both.
Those who wish to do the course but couldn’t make the welcome evening can sign up via the “RunTogether” web site at the link below. Select the “Jog Wantage” sessions. Payment cannot be done online but can be made at either of the welcome meetings on the 1st and 22nd April or, if you cannot make either of those, on your first session.
The course takes place on the KA’s Centre Site field (behind Wantage Leisure Centre). This is shown on the map below or on the map linked here.
